Taste of Victory for TFC Women
The Toccoa Falls College Lady Eagles won two out of three games last week. Tuesday, Feb. 9 they traveled to Macon to play Wesleyan College. TFC beat Wesleyan 43-35 in a low-scoring game back in November. This game saw both teams shoot better and score more. TFC led 31-29 at half-time and held on to win 65-63. Amanda Ferrell led a balanced scoring attack with 16 points. Bonnie McGee and Michaela Estill followed with 14 each and point guard Anna Bailey added 10. Estill also pulled down 15 rebounds.

TFC then hosted the NCCAA Div. II reigning national champions Kentucky Christian College on Feb. 12. Neither team shot well in the first half. The Lady Eagles were able to stay close and went into half-time down 21-17. KCC came out of their shooting slump in the second half and TFC didn’t. The Lady Eagles struggled to get scoring opportunities and to convert the ones they got and they went on to lose 57-32. McGee was the top scorer for TFC with nine points, and Ferrell grabbed 10 rebounds.

The Lady Eagles came out hungry the next day against Warren Wilson College. Coach Paul Shiffer remembered the Warren Wilson struggled against late full-court pressure in their first meeting in November, and TFC applied the same pressure from the beginning this time. The defense forced several turnovers and TFC capitalized and jumped out to a 24-6 lead 10 minutes into the first half. By half-time the lead was 40-19. TFC didn’t press full-court in the second half, but their defensive intensity remained and they were able to hold Warren Wilson to half of their own point total, winning 75-37. Bonnie McGee led the balanced scoring with 24 points (on 8-11 3-point shooting). Ferrell followed with 11 and Estill and freshman Angela Little had 10 each.

Tough Loss for Eagles
The TFC men’s basketball team lost another tough game last week to Southeastern Bible College (Alabama). Due to scheduling and complications, the game was played Feb. 11 at Atlanta Christian College. The Eagles were in control of the game early, leading by 10 points with three minutes remaining in the first half, but a couple of turnovers and missed layups allowed SBC to turn things around and take a 43-42 half-time lead. The score stayed close in the second half and TFC was down 63-66 in the final minute, before Johnny Sutherland hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 66. After a defensive stop, Sutherland had a shot to win the game with another 3-pointer at the buzzer, but the shot didn’t fall. SBC then took over in over-time and won the game 81-75. Though in a losing effort, two players turned in impressive performances. Jachin Wettstone had a triple-double, with 16 points, 18 rebounds and 10 blocked shots, and junior Nick Droll scored 16 points and grabbed 18 rebounds.

TFC hosts Clearwater Christian College tomorrow with both women’s and men’s games (5:00 and 7:00 pm). This will be the regular season games for both teams, as well as Senior Night.
